Kristin leads the data management team in building services and providing consultation in support of researchers reliably and securely storing, reusing, preserving, and sharing data throughout the research lifecycle. In her role, she brings expertise in information systems, research support, proposal and award review, cybersecurity compliance, as well as technology and organizational change management.

Kristin is an experienced information technology leader having spent a majority of her career working on transformative initiatives and delivering innovative solutions at Northwestern in various analytical and project management roles both centrally and locally. She has led the strategy, change management, and training efforts to implement IT solutions, policies, and procedures in human resources, student experience, business operations, regulatory compliance, and information security. Kristin has a reputation for building and nurturing relationships with internal and external stakeholders through effective communication, driving consensus among diverse teams and aligning opportunities to service offerings and results.

Prior to joining Research Computing and Data Services, she was the Chief Information Security Officer for the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Sciences where her recent focus was on bridging the gap between non-technical and technical domains in information security and data management planning, consulting on and solutioning compliance strategies required to fulfill NIST SP 800-171 controls, and adhering to university policies and standards based on data classification and risk. During her tenure at McCormick, she also served as co-chair of Northwestern’s Information Security and Advisory Committee as well as served on the planning committee for the annual EDUCAUSE Cybersecurity and Privacy Professional’s conference.

In addition to Northwestern, Kristin has also worked in industry, where she built a foundation in analysis, consulting and service delivery management at Ernst & Young LLC as well as (Aon) Hewitt, and Evanton-based Clerestory Consulting.

Kristin holds her Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) with a concentration in political and social climates and operations. During her studies, she was a research assistant for political science Professor Raymond Tanter (who served as a senior member of the Reagan-Bush National Security Council) and researched, wrote, and edited foreign policy proposals for two books, Rogue Regimes: Terrorism and Proliferation and Balancing in the Balkans.
