Security Enhancement to the Northwestern Online People Directory Begins April 29
Posted Date: April 25, 2024
Starting on Monday, April 29, the Northwestern Online People Directory, which lists contact information for Northwestern students, faculty, and staff, will transition to NetID-authenticated use only. This change will provide the campus community with more privacy and better protection from phishing attacks and unwanted emails.
This change means that only members of the Northwestern community with an active NetID and authenticating with Duo Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) can access the directory from on or off campus. Requiring MFA authentication is an additional step to safeguard individuals’ personal information against misuse or solicitation.
Additionally, the People Directory will be removed from the Northwestern search results to ensure directory information is protected from public access. When searching for the Northwestern People Directory, a link to the authenticated directory will be provided instead.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as Northwestern IT continues to enhance the security of University systems and the privacy of our community. If you have questions or concerns regarding this security enhancement, please contact the Information Security Office at security@northwestern.edu.
