Celebrating the Season and Preparing for Winter Break

Dear Northwestern IT Staff,

With all the festive events happening locally and hearing conversations about plans for the upcoming break, I am sensing the excitement of this holiday season. Seeing the invitation for our annual Winter Luncheon on January 22 also amplified the positive energy and reminded me just how close we are to wrapping up this calendar year and taking a well-deserved break to celebrate with families, friends, and other interests. As you reflect on the previous year, I hope you are as grateful as I am for the Northwestern IT and larger Northwestern communities we are fortunate to work with throughout the year. As you recharge in the coming weeks, I hope you hold onto the knowledge that your work has a lasting impact on the students, faculty, and staff of Northwestern (and beyond)!

Our winter recess begins at the end of the day on Monday, December 23, although it is important to note that we will follow our normal approach to the Winter Break. While we want all of you to enjoy your time away from the office as broadly as possible, we need to remember that our 24/7 essential services will continue from December 24 through January 1, and the campus community can call 847-491-4357 (1-HELP) to access support staff on-call for urgent matters. A special note of thanks goes to all those who have formalized responsibilities during this period and those who may get called upon to assist.

As we look ahead to the new year, we are preparing for the kickoff of hot-desking in 1800 Sherman, which is tentatively scheduled to begin on Tuesday, January 14. I want to thank everyone involved in planning this effort and those impacted. Once complete, it will be an appropriate way to start the new year and create a more vibrant work environment to enhance collaboration and impact across our units.

Thank you all for what you do. I hope the next few weeks are filled with joyous moments that bring you happiness, comfort, and relaxation.

Sincerely,

Sean
